Shark attacks and surf culture rise together

White sharks, historically the most revered, are involved in the largest number of attacks on humans. While attacks from white sharks are on the rise, tiger sharks also pose a threat to divers and surfers and an attack on humans is just as deadly. Popular culture, literature, movies, and sports are forces driving people to the oceans, increasingly encroaching on shark habitats.
